Mike Tyson Discusses Health Revival, Junk Food Past, and Trump Connection
Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight boxing champion, recently opened up about his health revival and past struggles with junk food. In an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Tyson discussed his journey towards better health, reflecting on a time when he indulged in unhealthy eating habits, including excessive consumption of sugary cereals and junk food.
Health Challenges and Big Changes
Tyson revealed that he used to start his mornings with two large bowls of Captain Crunch cereal, followed by ice cream later in the day. His lifestyle was detrimental, causing concern among friends and family. “My wife didn’t think I would make it to 60,” he shared.
To turn his life around, Tyson began with small steps. “I first started walking 10 minutes a day,” he stated, gradually increasing his time spent walking up to an hour. His diet underwent a significant transformation, focusing on simple foods: “I only started eating tomato soup, rice, and drinking water.” This disciplined approach was vital for his health revival.
Commitment to Health
Tyson expressed the importance of caring for one’s body, emphasizing, “We’ve only got one body. And we have one chance to really indulge in it.” His commitment to better health is evident, as he has faced various health issues in the past.
Recent Health Issues
Before a planned flight to Los Angeles in summer 2024 for a high-profile matchup against YouTuber Jake Paul, Tyson experienced medical complications. Medical personnel advised him to engage only in minimal to light training due to an ulcer flare-up. A statement in late May 2024 confirmed this recommendation, noting that he could eventually return to full training. This bout was initially set for July but was postponed to November 2024, where Tyson faced Paul in a match that garnered significant viewership despite technical difficulties during the stream.
Future Aspirations in Boxing
Before his fight with Paul, Tyson had not competed since a 2005 loss to Kevin McBride. His brief return in July 2020 for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. reignited interest in his career. Looking ahead, Tyson expressed a desire to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the near future, stating, “We’re going to make it happen on April 25th.”
Tyson’s Connection with Donald Trump
Tyson’s relationship with former President Donald Trump spans decades. He credited Trump with encouraging him to fight in Atlantic City, a move he initially resisted. Reflecting on that time, Tyson noted, “He made me an Atlantic City person … I even moved there for a few years.”
Tyson’s journey showcases his determination to improve his health and maintain a connection with his boxing roots while navigating personal and professional challenges.
