Police to Announce Significant Update in Gus Search

Authorities in South Australia are preparing for a significant announcement regarding the search for four-year-old Gus Lamont. The child went missing on September 27 while playing outside his family’s home at Oak Park Station, situated in the Mid North region of the state.

Since his disappearance, law enforcement has initiated extensive search operations. Police have confirmed that Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke, the Officer in Charge of Major Crime, will share updates during a press conference scheduled for Thursday at 1 PM local time.

Details of the Case

On January 6, Superintendent Fielke addressed the media, highlighting the emotional toll on Gus’ family during the holiday season without him. “We check in with the family regularly,” he stated, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to locate Gus despite the challenges.

The investigation remains complex, as it concerns a young child in a remote area. “We’re exploring all avenues related to locating Gus – nothing is off the table,” Fielke added, ensuring a thorough search process.

Previous Search Attempts

  • Initial searches conducted in October involved examining a dam within the sheep station.
  • In November, searches expanded to include six unsealed and unfenced mine shafts.
  • Both efforts yielded no clues regarding Gus’s whereabouts.

The search area, located approximately 43 kilometers south of Yunta, poses significant challenges due to its harsh terrain. Collaborative efforts have included police officers, State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers, military personnel, a tracker, and community members.

A single footprint, found around 500 meters from the location where Gus went missing, was initially investigated. However, police have ruled it out as belonging to the boy. The search continues, with updates expected from the authorities soon.
