RMCAD’s Crisosto Apache Named Colorado’s Newest Poet Laureate

On January 28, 2026, Crisosto Apache was appointed as Colorado’s 11th Poet Laureate. Apache, an Associate Professor at the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD), will serve in this prestigious role for a two-year term. As Poet Laureate, he will work to promote the arts across Colorado.

Crisosto Apache: A Rising Voice in Poetry

Apache’s appointment is particularly significant as it coincides with Colorado’s 150th anniversary and the United States’ 250th anniversary. His contributions to the literary world include acclaimed works such as “GENESIS” and “Ghostword.” Apache has received notable recognition, having won the Betty Berzon Emerging Writers Award and been a finalist for the Colorado Authors League in Poetry with his piece “is(ness).”
