TV Show Highlights Father-Son Duo Jailed for Vigilante Killing
David and Edward King, a father-son duo from Bury St Edmunds, have been sentenced to life in prison for the vigilante killing of Neil Charles. This tragic incident occurred in the early hours of June 20, 2021, as Charles was simply trying door handles near their residence.
Details of the Murder
Neil Charles, aged 47, met a violent end after being pursued and stabbed by the Kings. The assault took place on Winsford Road, roughly 70 meters from the Kings’ family home. Charles suffered a 12cm stab wound to his chest, which proved fatal.
CCTV Footage and Television Coverage
The case will be featured in the first episode of the Channel 4 series “999 What Happened Next.” This episode will include previously unseen CCTV footage from the night of the murder, providing insight into the events that unfolded.
Appeals and Legal Proceedings
The Kings lost their appeal against their sentences in May of the previous year. During the trial at Ipswich Crown Court, evidence revealed that the duo had hunted down Charles before inflicting fatal harm.
The Court’s Findings
- During the appeal hearing on May 2, Kieran Vaughan KC argued that the convictions were unsafe.
- The appeal highlighted concerns over “bad character” evidence that had been accepted during the trial.
- Text messages exchanged between the Kings indicated their violent thoughts toward thieves and burglars.
Weapons and Intent
The court found that David and Edward King had an unhealthy obsession with weapons, including several knives and machetes stored at their home. Lord Justice Warby noted the presence of such items as alarming and indicative of their mindset.
Show Air Date
The episode featuring the Kings’ case is scheduled to air on Channel 4 at 10:05 PM on Tuesday, January 27, as part of a new four-part series focused on significant criminal events.
