Canadiens Dismiss Goaltending Coach Raymond

The Montreal Canadiens have made a significant change in their coaching staff by dismissing goaltending coach Eric Raymond. This decision comes amidst disappointing performances from the team’s goaltenders.

Interim Coaching and Goaltender Struggles

Marco Marciano will take over as the interim goaltending coach for the remainder of the season. Under Raymond’s guidance, the Canadiens’ goaltenders have faced challenges, with both Samuel Montembeault and Jakub Dobes recording sub .900 save percentages.

Performance Metrics

  • Samuel Montembeault: 9 wins, 8 losses, 2 overtime losses; save percentage of .868; goals-against average of 3.46.
  • Jakub Dobes: 16 wins, 5 losses, 3 overtime losses; save percentage of .890; goals-against average of 2.96 in 23 games.

Montembeault’s struggles prompted a brief stint in the AHL with the Laval Rocket in December, where he started two games.

Rookie Goaltender Recall

The Canadiens also recalled rookie goaltender Jacob Fowler in December. Fowler recorded a 4-4-2 record in 10 appearances, achieving a save percentage of .902 and a goals-against average of 2.62. He was returned to Laval on January 16.

Current Standings

As of Wednesday, Montreal sits in the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. The team is tied on points with the Buffalo Sabres for third place in the Atlantic Division, holding one additional game played.
