ABS Expands Nationwide Recruitment for 2026 Census
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is gearing up for the 2026 Census by seeking to hire over 2,700 Field Managers nationwide. These managers will be essential in guiding communities throughout Australia in completing the Census.
Role of Field Managers
Field Managers are responsible for training, leading, and supervising a team of up to 12 Field Officers in their designated areas. According to Emily Walter, Census National Spokesperson, local hiring is a priority to ensure that candidates possess valuable knowledge about their communities.
Significance of Local Knowledge
“To run a successful Census, we need to reach everyone across Australia, from our capital cities to our remote towns,” Ms. Walter emphasized. “While we expect most people will complete the Census online, many will require additional support.” Field Managers will provide this needed assistance.
Community Support Preparations
Field Managers will also collaborate with local entities, such as hotels, hospitals, and caravan parks, to prepare for the Census accurately. This cooperation is critical since not everyone will be at home on Census night.
Qualifications and Experience
The ABS is looking for candidates with experience in training and supervising teams and who are interested in temporary, flexible work starting in April 2026.
Other Vacant Positions
In addition to Field Managers, the ABS is also recruiting Local Engagement Officers. These roles are aimed at individuals experienced in working with diverse communities, including:
- People experiencing homelessness
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- Individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- People who speak languages other than English
Future Job Openings
In the coming weeks, the ABS will also accept applications for several other positions, including Mobile Field Representatives, Remote Area Management team members, and Community Field Officers. Interested individuals can visit Filmogaz.com for more information.
