Metro Resumes Monday While Other DC Transit Services Halt

Following the recent snowstorm, several transit services in the Washington, D.C. area are experiencing major service changes. While Metro service resumes on Monday, other regional transit options are temporarily halted.

Metro Resumes Service on Monday

Metro Bus service is operational on Monday, though under restricted routes. The agency prioritizes four key routes—D20, D40, D70, and M22—to ensure access to hospitals and emergency facilities. These adjustments come after service had to be suspended on Sunday due to treacherous road conditions.

Metro reported that a refreeze overnight rendered many roads impassable, which limited operators’ ability to report for duty. The transit agency is collaborating with local authorities to clear the roads and restore full service safely.

Operational Challenges

According to Sharon Kershbaum, director of the District Department of Transportation, contractors have been deployed since early morning to clear bus stops. She mentioned, “Our goal is to support WMATA in returning to full capacity, but it will take time.” She refrained from providing a specific timeline due to the uncertain weather conditions. Depending on developments, additional snow removal may commence as soon as Tuesday.

Regional Transit Impacts

In Arlington, all ART and STAR services are suspended as of Monday. Updates regarding service resumption will be provided once roads are deemed safe.

Fairfax County has also canceled Connector bus services. Similarly, CUE Buses in the City of Fairfax are currently not in operation. In Maryland, the Transit Administration has halted all Local bus services since Sunday evening, with CityLink routes tentatively scheduled to restart on Monday at 8 a.m.

Continued Adjustments in Other Areas

Regions such as Montgomery County and Loudoun County continue to adjust their bus services. Montgomery’s Ride On will operate on the S Service Schedule, using 40-foot buses for better traction in the snow instead of the typical 60-foot models. Riders should be prepared for potential delays.
