The European Handball Federation (EHF) revealed the knockout matches following the preliminary group phase of the ongoing European Championship. Romania finished in fourth place in Group B after facing three defeats, which propelled them into this next qualifying phase.
Qualifying Structure
Teams that placed fourth in the preliminary groups, along with three winners from the first qualification stage—Kosovo, Latvia, and Turkey—will compete in this round. The matches are scheduled for March and include:
- Bosnia vs Kosovo
- Georgia vs Israel
- Ukraine vs Slovakia
- Serbia vs Lithuania
- Poland vs Latvia
- Turkey vs Romania
- Greece vs Belgium
- Finland vs Montenegro
The eight winners from these matches will join six teams that finished third in their respective groups during the European Championship 2026. These teams include the Faroe Islands, North Macedonia, Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, and Italy, along with six other national teams still competing.
Championship Details
A total of ten teams will qualify from this third phase for the final tournament. Germany qualifies automatically as the host nation. Denmark, the defending champion, and four additional teams based on their standings in the European Championship 2026 will also secure their spots.
The draw for the third-phase matches will occur on January 31, with the championship itself slated for January 13-31, 2027, in Germany, featuring 32 national teams.
