Swiss edtech start-up, Sparkli, has unveiled a groundbreaking approach to children’s learning by integrating artificial intelligence. The company recently announced its success in raising $5 million in pre-seed funding.

Sparkli’s Vision for Engaging Learning

According to Sparkli’s CEO and co-founder, Lax Poojary, traditional learning methods are no longer sufficient. “Thirty years ago, if your child wanted to learn about Mars, you might have given them a book. Today, kids should explore Mars themselves,” he stated. Sparkli enables this exploration by providing a multi-modal, AI-native learning engine.

Innovative Learning Experiences for Kids

  • Target Age Group: Children aged 5 to 12.
  • Learning Method: Children can prompt questions such as “How do I build a space station on Mars?”
  • AI Functionality: The AI engine generates interactive sessions called “expeditions.”

These expeditions not only answer kids’ inquiries but also teach critical lessons. Sparkli has also crafted pre-built pathways that focus on important topics such as financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and sustainability, with the intention to expand these offerings in the future.

Market Context and Competition

The global edtech market is estimated to reach nearly $350 billion by 2030, growing at a rate of 13% per year. Sparkli’s model aims to fill a niche in this competitive sector. Numerous firms, including Duolingo and Coursera, have developed AI-powered tools mainly focusing on older children and more structured learning environments.

Filling the Gap in Edtech

Poojary emphasizes the need for a platform that allows children to explore and ask questions in engaging ways. “Children learn by exploring and discovering what inspires them,” he said. Sparkli aims to provide a safe space that merges modern generative technology with age-appropriate design.

Partnerships and Future Plans

To bring its vision to life, Sparkli has partnered with AI developers from ETH Zurich. The platform is currently in trials with families and schools and has initiated a pilot program with a private school group that includes access to over 100 schools and approximately 100,000 students.

Commercialization Strategy

Sparkli plans to offer subscriptions to both educational institutions and parents. A free version may also be available to broaden access. The recent funding round, led by Founderful, along with contributions from Arc Investors and a Swiss Government grant, will support scaling the generative learning engine.
